Arvind Subramanian, a former IMF staffer – and currently the chief economic adviser to the government of India – told the Financial Times this week: “The puzzle is not why it has slowed down dramatically but why it did not do so earlier. It is only relative to the unfounded belief that 10% growth was normal for China that 6% today seems unusual.”
